Best bagels in RI. Everything made on site, nothing is pre frozen. Besides the best bagels, they also have the best coffee. Get the "Tank" ice coffee! They also offer a variety of sandwiches all made with Boar's Head cold cuts. Never too crowded. This is my favorite secret spot to enjoy a quick breakfast before I start my day. Mostly locals make this place great. Everyone knows each other and they know just what I want when I walk in the door. Anthony the owner is always in the kitchen and says hello to everyone. Put this place on your list.

This place has been on my bucket list for awhile. Finally made it in today for lunch with hubs about a half hour before they closed. Even though it was close to closing time, the people working were super nice to us. Felt like a regular the moment we walked through the door. Our sandwiches were made on Italian bread LITERALLY JUST BAKED. generous portions of meat and cheese (no Subway style one piece of everything) plus, their lunch special can't be beat...for just an extra dollar you get chips and a drink. Can't wait to come back and try their breakfast sandwiches and coffee!

Always looking for a good bagel place and moved closer to North Providence and decided to give it a try. Bagels are delicious. As other reviewers noted, if you go later in the morning, the selection is narrower. Breakfast sandwiches are an great step up from Dunks. Also, they have Taylor ham, which my boyfriend from NJ is obsessed with. Regarding the staff, they have only been super nice (I know other reviewers have had opposite claims).

My coffee and bagel stop on the way to my shop every day. Love this place! Biggest breakfast sandwich anywhere and the coffee is always fresh, f**k dunkin donuts!!!

I have tried bagels from several places near my house and these are, by far, the best. They are not to dense and they have a good variety of flavors. I love the sesame toasted with cream cheese and tomato! They also have some pastries and samples up on the counter for you to try. They have hot and iced coffee and a cooler of other drinks too. They also have deli options like Boar's Head and they have lox (and lox cream cheese). Yum!

I've been here twice and both times I was talked down to. They basically look at you like you're crazy when you ask a question and expect you to know the menu like the back of your hand. One time I asked for he onion bagel that was in the onion bagel bin and the woman said, "that's garlic." In a rude, condescending tone. MY BAD. IT WAS IN THE ONION BIN. When my boyfriend asked if the sausage on the breakfast sandwich was a patty or links, she looked at him like he had three heads and said, "they're links cut up and then put into omelette form." Again, in a rude, condescending tone. Are you kidding me?? How were we supposed to know? I've never heard of anywhere doing that for a breakfast sandwich. Out roommate also had been here and said he was treated equally as awful. I love going to local businesses and supporting them versus dunkin donuts or mcdonalds, but how am I supposed to do so when the customer service at the place I'm trying to support is so horrible! How do you ever expect to create regulars??! I'm never going back.

I went to Bagel Express after reading a review on Yelp. Definitely a local "Mom & Pop" place-- the owners have baby pictures up of all of their children/grand-children/nieces/nephews/etc., and all of the employees I've seen appear to be family. It's definitely a hole in the wall, but well worth the trek! I've only been for breakfast, but they make the eggs/saugage/bacon right on the spot, and very quickly too. It's totally well-priced, amazing service, and great breakfast. So much better for breakfast sandwiches than Dunkin' Donuts or the other main stream places, and cheaper as well.

This has become my favorite bagel spot in Rhode Island. I go just about every Sunday morning before football starts. The bagels are absolutely delicious - according to the owner they aren't baked, but rather steamed so they get nice and fluffy. The flavored cream cheeses are made in-house, and often right when you order. The chive is my favorite, but the veggie is also delicious. I keep saying I'm gonna venture out and order a sandwich one of these days, but I only get here once a week and am always nervous to give up my bagel and cream cheese deliciousness. The flavored coffees are also yummy, and they will brew any flavor beans that they have for you if a pot isn't already made. Talk about fresh! Be sure to try the Snickerdoodle, or my favorite - Almond Joy. I do recommend getting there as early as possible as your choices dwindle as the day goes on. I was oddly there at 6:30am one Sunday (yes, still awake from the night before...but sober! Don't worry!) and had my choice of about a dozen different bagel flavors. Personal faves include onion and spinach. I can see why other reviewers have complained about the customer service, but I have never experienced a problem. If you get there early enough the male owner is usually there and he is sweet as pie. Anecdote about said sweetness: I went with a friend who had been asking for their strawberry cream cheese every week for about a month, and they never had it. When he served us on this early morning, he promised that if he didn't have it the next week, our bagels were free. The bad news is we haven't seen the strawberry yet, but the good news is that we've gotten free bagels for the last few Sundays. Maybe he's indirectly bribing me for this favorable review?

Yes - the older owners are pretty indifferent to customers, but the staff they have (thank the gods) are very friendly and attentive! Bagels are phenomenal - always fresh, soft and they usually have some flavors that other bakeries, etc., just don't carry. Pastries are very fresh and tasty and the coffee is very good as well. Everything is also reasonably priced. I only eat a limited amount of refined wheat products and I usually save my weekly ration for a bagel from the Bagel Express.

If you are actually wanting to just get a cup of coffee to avoid the line at DD down the street...don't bother. They are ok if you are NOT in a hurry. The older lady looked up, made eye contact, and did not say anything. When I asked if I could get a cup of coffee, she stated she was helping some one else and I would have to wait. I'm all good with that. I left.

Decent NY style bagels. Went mid-afternoon & they were out of most varieties. Will try going back in the a.m. sometime soon.

Great home-made bagels, muffins, and pastries. We used to live near here and still go back when we can for breakfast when we want a fresh bagel sandwich or a fresh muffin (we don't have a good bagel place near us). They make their own bagels and have a variety of breakfast sandwiches. They also have deli meats, pastries, and flavored coffees. They do have seating, but it's not very cozy. They also make the famous RI pizza strips which I haven't tried, but I see they supply the pizza strips for Blue State Coffee on Thayer. I tried their Italian bread once, but it wasn't very good. I haven't tried it again, so it could have just been a bad day. I also like their bagel chips. I have to say that the only reason I'm giving them four stars is because they use the heavy styrofoam cups for coffee. I wish they would use something "greener." Take your own coffee mug with you, please! Don't make the mistake of parking in the next lot over if you miss the turn. The guy who owns that lot will come out and yell at you, threatening to call a tow truck, even if you're the only car there.

Terrible customer service. Great bagels-- actually delicious bagels, but the lady behind the counter Paula, has been rude to me since I moved to the neighborhood 4 years ago. We go very frequently. I always get bagels and a tub of cream cheese. They are always out of most bagels by 11am and she usually says, "you can have cream cheese... IF I HAVE ANY LEFT". Strangely enough, she's so nice to other people, "have a great day Jim!", "take care Carol!" and here I've been coming in for years and its like my money isn't green. She does the same thing to my neighbors and my husband has had similar experiences in there as well. In a bad economy she should be thankful we spend our hard-earned money there. It's in poor taste that she is so rude. Considering a new bagel spot at this point.

I love their cinnamon sugar bagels but HATE their customer service. I tend to eat my bagels plain and usually just say that I would like the [insert bagel type]. Everytime the middle-aged lady gives me such an attitude and says HOW?! I want to say to her that if I want cream cheese on it, I would say I want the cinnamon sugar bagel with plain cream cheese. She gives me such an attitude each time, I ask myself why I even bother to go? It definitely leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I think I'm better off if I find a different place...

Decent bagels for Providence. Lots of cream cheese selections and pastries are yummy!

Always ate bagels from here when I was a kid, so I went into the store myself for the first time last year. What a mistake. All I bought was one bagel but the lady was acting like I was seriously bothering her. Gave me and attitude when she actually had to ASK me whether or not I wanted it toasted (something along the lines of "Well, how I am supposed to know if you want it toasted?!") Sorry? Would've walked out if I hadn't already paid for my bagel... On the bright side, the food is good and not overpriced...the employees and most of the people eating there seem to be friendly and from what I can see from the other reviews maybe you have to be a regular to get treated politely? I've made a point to not go there since so I guess I'll never find out.

Nice spot for a quick bagel or snack. The egg sandwich (bacon/egg/cheese) was just OK - not enough cheese for me, leaving the sandwich dry. Next time, I would ask for extra cheese and see if that makes a difference. Coffee was good, pizza strips were REALLY good. A little different from the usual bakery pizza strip, but in a good way. They have finely crushed tomato sauce, a little parmesan cheese baked on, and nice crispy crust. Not the best I've tasted (that honor goes to Jeannette's on Branch ave in Providence), but better than most. The lady working the counter (I assume she's the owner as well as the woman half of the reviews here mention negatively) was a little brusque, but not rude of off-putting. If you place a lot of emphasis on service with a smile, you will be bothered. I don't, and I wouldn't have given it a second thought if I hadn't read the reviews on here. Overall, this place is worth a shot, especially since there isn't a whole lot else in the area other than DD.

Absolutely love their bagels! My favorite is the cinnamon sugar bagel...it's so yummy, and I just can't get enough of them. I don't go too often, but when I do I typically make it a point to head there early in the morning before their best bagels are sold out for the day. I actually really like their coffee too! Great bagels :)

Never mind delicious coffee, both hot and iced, which is my preference, the food and particularly the pastry are amazing! I've had bagels all over the world and many times in Brooklyn, which is arguably the bagel capital of the world, and this place beats them all! The variety of bagels is great, but once you toast one and slather it with some butter, their house cream cheese, or plain, you wont forget it! They are the best! check out the Ricotta Cheese Cookies and home made Biscotti. Awesome. I've had them all many times! I often pick up bags to bring to clients when I meet them, and they love it. Good sales tool for me. Check them out. Nice people! Family owned and run! Delicious and fresh!

Love this place. I'm sure most people don't know about it, and "Bagel Express" doesn't exactly sound very appetizing, but it's really a hidden gem and very "Mom & Pop" even though it doesn't sound like it. The egg & cheese / sausage / bacon etc. are made on the spot, not like gross Dunkin Donuts, and are taaaaaaaasty. The cream cheese's are all made there are are really good, my favorite is the chive. The bagels are all really yummy and fresh, I've never tried a bad one. Really though, one morning after a heavy night of drinking and with 7 people sleeping on my floors and couches, I went out to this place and brought home everyone egg and cheese sandwiches and cream cheese and bagels that they thought they were getting from Dunkins, but I decided to improvise. Everyone couldn't stop saying over and over how yummy it was. The also serve sandwiches with Boars Head meats but I've never had the delight of being there for lunch. The owner is really nice and is always there, likely serving you. They close at either 2 or 3pm so get in early :)
